Betty resides in Durham’s Brightleaf district near Duke’s East Campus. Betty was the first to move into the new building in Dec. 2019 from Chapel Hill’s Southern Village neighborhood. She helped the new community bond with initiating covid-safe community-building social opportunities. That’s how she and Cindy Parks met. Cindy posts AAUW-ODC program updates on the list serv that Betty initiated. In the past, Betty has served as an NC Guardian Ad Litem. Betty’s daughter, son-in-law and grandson live in Durham. Betty graduated from Georgia State University.
Katy resides in Raleigh. She was referred to us by her friend and fellow AAUW-ODC member, Emily Hare. Education: Currently enrolled at Virginia Commonwealth University pursuing a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership, Higher Education. Graduation will be May 2023. Master’s of Education in Higher Education Administration from NC State University; Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Florida State University. Career/Work: Current: Student Activities Coordinator at Central Carolina Community College; Former: Achievement Coach, Wayne Community College, Residence Life Coordinator, NC State University Coordinator of Student Engagement for Student Leadership and Multicultural Education. Hobbies/interests: I’m a foodie at heart who loves to read, travel, and meet new people! When I am not at work or working on my school work, you can find me hanging out with my husband and our cats Daryl and Carol! I’m a lover of all things cats, coffee, and Diet Coke!
