During the 2021 award year, AAUW awarded nearly $5 million in funding nationwide to more than 260 fellows and grantees. These exceptional and talented recipients pursued academic work and lead innovative community projects to empower women and girls and received awards to fund dissertation research, community outreach and career development opportunities.
For AAUW-ODC, February’s annual meeting is always a very popular event to introduce our branch members to grant recipients in North Carolina. This year’s three winners (among 13 women across the state) are an exceptional group of very talented professionals who have completed graduate work or will finishing this year at area universities. They will discuss their respective grant awards for the 2021-2022 and highlight their research or community work, speaking to the topic, “Community Outreach and Collaboration Through Diversity Equity and Inclusion.”

American Dissertation Fellowship
American Fellowship |Who may apply: women pursuing full-time study to complete dissertations, conducting postdoctoral research for publication for eight consecutive weeks. Funding: $6,000 – $30,000
Ms. Dawn Rivers, Ph.D candidate (anticipated 2022), Anthropology. University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Selected Professions Fellowship
Selected Professions Fellowship |Who may apply: women pursuing full-time study in a master’s or professional degree program in which women are underrepresented, including STEM, law, business, and medicine. Funding: $5,000-$18,000.

International Fellowship
International Fellowship |Who may apply: Women pursuing full-time graduate or postdoctoral study in the United States who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Funding: $18,000-$30,000.
Ms. Ekene Osakwe, M.S. Global Health (anticipated 2023), Duke University, Durham, North Carolina
